FLYSPECKING OR A VARIETY?

by Lee Coen
13th of December 2018

I purchased a few stamps from the APS circuit retired books and found this gem. I noticed the letter ‘O’ was not an ‘O’, but more like a letter ‘C’. I placed it for sale on a web site and a day later it sold. I have never spent any time looking for little ’specks’ of ink on a stamp, but his one stands out.

Persian/Iran stamp Scott#86 for sale

Yes, I see them, soft perfs and not the best centering. I listed it for a dollar plus $3.50 first class shipping. I walked in from work today and the dang thing sold! What the heck? Is a variety? Or just some ink that never made it to where it should be. You tell me. Is this a letter ‘O’ or a letter ‘C’?

I wear glasses and the dang letter ‘C’ jumped off the screen. Wow, very cool. It should read ‘p-O-s-t-e’. All I can say is, every time you scan a stamp and start to crop it for a listing, new things are seen almost every time. I want to say ink issue, but as a stamp collector/seller all it takes is one little difference and the stamp will sell. Some collector out there will spot that issue and buy it. I like it when collectors buy my stamps. Heck I never even saw that ‘C’, or is an ‘O’. You decide-

Good luck to all and many sales!
